Churches - The Roanoke Valley has approximately 400 churches and two synagogues. Almost every denomination is represented.

Communications - Six AM radio stations, seven FM radio stations and five television stations serve Roanoke, along with cable television service. A daily newspaper, the Roanoke Times and World-News, has a circulation of 115,000 copies, phone (540) 981-3100 or (800) 346-1234. Several weekly newspapers and monthly business and cultural publications are also available.

Libraries - The Roanoke Valley offers 20 libraries, including 14 public, several college and medical libraries, and the Roanoke City Law Library. The public library systems of Roanoke City, Salem, Roanoke and Botetourt Counties share a single card for materials from any system.

Entertainment & Recreation - Roanoke is rich in both cultural and recreational opportunities. From the symphony, opera, ballet and professional theater to sports, conventions and exhibits, the Valley entertains throughout the year. Center in the Square, located in downtown Roanoke, is a showplace for the arts and sciences, housing the Roanoke Museum of Fine Arts, Mill Mountain Theatre, the Roanoke Valley History Museum, the Science Museum of Western Virginia, and a planetarium. The Roanoke area also has an Annual Horse Show and other events that help raise thousands of dollars for the less fortunate of the community.

With the beauty of the Blue Ridge Parkway, national forests and Smith Mountain Lake, the region provides a natural arena for recreationist. The area's parks and recreation departments offer year-round programs and activities to residents.
